A Nintendo Switch may stop charging because of a damaged USB-C connector, an unsuitable charger, battery trouble, liquid damage or a fault in the charging-control circuitry. Testing the entire charging path is important because the port is only one possible cause.
Check the charger and connection
Use a compatible charger and inspect the cable for damage. A connector that only works at an angle or feels loose may indicate physical wear inside the USB-C port.
Signs of charging-port damage
The port may contain bent pins, debris or internal damage that is not easy to see without magnification.
- No charging symbol
- Charges only when the plug is moved
- Loose USB-C connection
- Dock connection does not work
- Visible bent material inside the port
The charging circuit may also be involved
Power-management and charging-control components on the motherboard can fail, especially after liquid exposure, electrical damage or a damaged connector. Replacing the port alone will not solve those faults.
Avoid repeatedly forcing the cable
Continued pressure can damage the connector further or affect the board pads beneath it. Stop testing if the plug is unusually loose, hot or physically difficult to insert.
